Artist As Designer-1200x628

hello friends, customers and students.
please pay attention to my friends new project, starting at their wonderful spot in waterbury. right behind the prohibition pig. there is the treasure of property that offers beautiful pottery, barns and vermont country atmosphere, which always includes a homy, welcoming, warm hearted, family- creative vibe with wonderful selected handmade local products that they advertise and promote this year in a special way for the first time.
my very first friends here in vermont (2006), wonderful, warmhearted and universally talented georgia ayers and her known husband, potter jeremy ayers, (many of you will know him from farmers markets or many stores throughout the north east kingdom, http://www.jeremyayerspottery.com/) decided to start a project called “artist as designer”. they decided to give  designers and creative entrepreneurs the platform to connect with people and demonstrate their process of work, inspiration and motivation of why they want to do what they do.
you have the chance to see a lot of art, get to know their creators and also get familiar with this property that is handed down from generation to generation and is absolutely romantic and fantastic for innovative , creative projects in the future.
we all hope you will come and support this event, getting to know us as artists/designers, getting to know our process, inspiration and motivation of our work and also start to understand what it takes to be one of those who are willing to take risks in order to do what they looove to do.
i hope i will see lots of you at this wonderful scene.

such a touching compliment that keeps me doing what i do

this is from my wonderful and inspiring  student eve and came out of the blue in a time that i was struggling, doubting and simply sad….it brought me back to the place to stay more positive, in general but especially right now. its hard but worth it to stand up for your visions and your believes.and small things can grow big…

thank you eve, for getting me going.

“Thank you so much for everything.  I do not tell you enough, your workshop and classes are my happy place. Thank you for offering your beautiful, bright, sunny self and family and home. You have such a warm bright light inside of you.  I am endlessly grateful for you and werkstatt.”

“I can’t contain all the wonderful things I have to say about you. You are such a huge light in my life! I wish you knew. We ALL love being around you so much. . I wish you knew how we all feel about you! I really do appreciate you more than words can tell. You and your classes are the best part of my week. The homey vibe of werkstatt along with your laugh and the creative, comfortable energy feels like a healing balm for the soul. I talk about it all time. You create this little community that I now can’t imagine living without.  “Thank you” doesn’t begin to cut it.

If you ever need a comment or praise for your blog or anything, let me know so that I can sit down and write something more  articulate about werkstatt and you.

Really- You are magic. Simply the best.

getting ready for the holiday season

since ella entered her wonderful kindergarten class at the integrated arts academy, i finally feel like a goldsmith again who gets quality time at the bench all morning 5 days a week. it frees my mind and lets me be creative and productive again.

now that i am solo at WERKSTATT this will be my first season on my own in a different setting. i am excited and nervous at the same time.

i am getting ready with new stock, especially with extended “fan” designs and new stackables including colored, rose cut diamonds. also i worked on a little serie of pins this year that i finally finished and got into stores for the busy and cold season of the year. these are available in all materials and hold scarfs or button-less jackets together in order to keep you warm.

please have a look and make a note in your calendar about the WERKSTATTs first open holiday house, friday, nov. 19th (5-8) and saturday, nov.20th (2-7).

i will be serving some hot cider and punch, gingerbread, clementines and some other small snacks. all stock pieces will be 10% off from that weekend on till the end of the month.

after that my shop will be open every sat.and sun. from 11-5 and by appointment.

802-999-3242 or info@janefrank.de

i hope i see many of you for a cozy gathering by the fireplace, browsing through beautiful and unique jewelry.

a wonderful holiday season and all the best to all of you.

thank you zach and alissa

i met zach in november 2015 to talk about making an engagement ring for him.

since he lives in boston we did a lot back and forth via email but a few months later we  came up with this very simple, elegant and beautiful design including a rose cut diamond. i melted down a bunch of his family members gold in order to make the setting.

when he picked it up he was so happy that he proposed that night and brought his “now” finance alissa and his sweet mom fren the next day. we hit it all off right away.

then alissa and zach decided to come again to make their wedding bands with me, also with gold that we melted down to create something so new and exiting for them.they came all the way from boston and we had such a great time….

they now are married and just sent this picture. thank you for sharing!

all the best, i am pretty sure  this was not the last project for us to work on.

preparing for the “strut” fashion show

hello everyone.

since i decided to leave my retail collective “alchemy” this spring, i am off to new adventures. its scary but exiting at the same time. thanks to my very creative and wonderfully open minded friend lisa lillibridge, i have the opportunity to participate in the art hop fashion show “strut” and move completely out of my comfort zone. she will be working with fabric designer/artist elizabeth bunsen and both of them are from dakota/nebraska, so they made their theme around prairie and earthiness . i am very exited to try something new and making it around having fun…..

Get on Board!
By John Tashiro, General Manager

What a hot summer it continues to be! Such a fantastic time of year where you can see “and taste” the incredible variety of locally grown produce available. Did you know that Vermont ranks first for its commitment to raising and eating local food, followed by Maine, New Hampshire, Oregon, and Massachusetts, according to a 2015 Strolling of the Heifers Locavore Index? Your Co-op remains invested in helping to grow Vermont’s local food system; visit a multitude of farms and learn more about Vermont’s vibrant working agricultural landscape during Open Farm Week, August 15 – 21.
Speaking of growth, last month I mentioned that we are making good progress with Co-op expansion in both the South End and the Old North End. Our downtown store is busier than ever and the Co-op is at an exciting time in its evolution. We are here to serve you, our Members and the broader community; this might be just the right time for you to get more involved in the Co-op. With Board elections in October, we’re currently accepting applications for Board candidates until September 2nd.
The Co-op relies on good leadership – people who can work effectively to help guide the organization towards its full potential. Diverse backgrounds, interests, experience and skills are useful for Board Members along with the key ability to listen and work well with others.

Run for the Board
It’s time to start thinking about running for City Market’s Board of Directors! The Board of Directors consists of nine members, elected from the general Membership. Elections are held annually and Directors serve 3 year terms. When a Board Member vacates a seat before the end of their 3 year term, the Board may appoint a new Board Member who will serve until the next election process. This year we have four seats up for election; three of these seats are for 3 year terms and one seat is for a 2 year term to finish out a vacated seat. The vacated seat will go to the candidate that receives the fourth highest number of votes.

In an effort to better educate new candidates about Board work, including the time commitment involved and the associated responsibilities, the Board has created a list of optional preparedness activities. These include an orientation, attending a Board meeting, and some reading.
The next scheduled orientation is coming up on Monday, August 15 from 6pm to 7pm. RSVP for an orientation by emailing Liz at ljarvis@citymarket.coop.

The final Board of Directors Meeting before the application deadline is on Monday, August 22 from 6pm to 8:30pm. Please RSVP with Liz Jarvis (contact information above) to attend.
The deadline to apply is Friday, September 2.

Taking It To The Streets: Recipe Roundup

By Meredith Knowles
Outreach & Education Coordinator

From Arts Riot’s ever-growing Food Truck stop on Friday evenings, Summervale gatherings, and food carts dotted along Church St., finger-licking, hand-held street foods are a summertime staple. I’m talking about sliders and tacos, popcorn and fizzy drinks, and tempura-fried broccoli and southern-style chicken….Wrap it up tight and try not to spill as you take it to go or linger with friends.

To bring the flavors of summer home, I decided to try out some street-inspired recipes. Here’s the round-up of a few of my favorites.

Parmesan Zucchini Fries

Crusted in parmesan and served with creamy dip, these zucchini fries are an absolute win! I used parchment paper wrapped in a cone shape to make them fun to serve. If you make too many, don’t fret. They will re-crisp when toasted or broiled after being in the fridge overnight.

All Souls on Deck
By Chad Estey
Media Coordinator

Some City Market staff members recently took a trip to Warren, Vermont, to meet with the owners and staff of All Souls Tortilleria as well as to get a behind the scenes look into their daily operations. All Souls was started by Joe Bossen of Vermont Bean Crafters, Sam Fuller, and Hubert d’Autremont, and together they’re bringing customers a truly local corn tortilla that’s certified organic, which you’re able to find at City Market!

Their operation is broken into two different buildings, where first the corn gets sifted in a beautiful old red barn. Once the initial stages of sorting the kernels is complete, the cooking and tortilla development happens in another smaller building located close by.

We were first taken into the barn to look at the fanning belt, which is the first step in the process of developing the delicious tortillas. Here they add 50 pound bags of regionally produced corn (sourced from Vermont and New York), which gets sifted and sorted by the machine. The average 50 pound bag yields about 43 pounds of usable corn kernels. The 7 lbs of unusable kernels gets composted and fed to pigs on the farm. In total, between 400-600 pounds of corn go into each cooking batch which makes around 300-400 pounds of masa.

Advice from the Aisles
Summer Sunscreen
By Kirsten Malzac, Wellness Department
It’s hot, it’s sunny, and it’s humid out there during our Vermont summers. We’re in the thick of it now, and many of you may still be struggling with your facial care routine. Let’s take a look at the options when trying to pack on as little as possible while also protecting our skin.

Less is more in the summer when we *glisten* right through our morning facial routine. Or, if you’re me, you just plain sweat it off. In the brightly lit glass shelving section of facial care at City Market, you’ll find lotions that contain a small SPF rating for daily sun protection. These 2-in-1 wonders reduce the layers of product needed to stay moisturized and protected. Alaffia, Alba, Andalou Naturals, and Earth Science offer a facial moisturizer, in range of scents and textures, at various strengths of SPF.

great ‘megaphone` event.

yesterday i met with 4 women trying to figure out a good networking concept about the new `farm to bench` project( the name is not confirmed  yet).

i had the pleasure to work with 4 super nice women (julia, melissa, kate and KK), my friend ina deane as a great support, my consultant and friend phillip bosen and the juicy support of gabrielle from the tomgirl.

i think we are going in the right direction to support community, small businesses, dreams and visions.
